I really must share this.
Last last week I worked till around 10 plus, the Singtel Shoot over run, so I left late. Darling was waiting for me and we board a silver cab at balestier. The uncle took the CTE route, which I’m pretty fine with it lah, cuz I’m dead tired and I dun mind paying the extra 50 cents or a dollar, but Darling was saying he should have took the Thomson route instead.
But well, never mind.
Then we passed the ERP Gantry and I was being charged $5.90!!!! $5.90 for a bloody erp at 10 plus 11 at night? How can it be? It’s normally 50cents at that hour or the most $1. And why is there an extra 90cents? I’m like super shag so I didn’t really bother but Darling had those super big question mark look and I saw that the uncle also seem bewildered. And then when we finally reach our destination, which is AMK, the whole journey cost us $16+!!!
From balestier to AMK, that expensive?!!!! By right, it should be around $7 or $8. I asked the uncle and he say he didn’t know why is the ERP so expensive too, maybe it’s a new ruling. We didn’t think too much, we thought it must be something new and there’s nothing we can do anyway, so we paid and left.
But the next day I took a cab again, same hour and I told the uncle to use the Thomson route, I dun wanna pay another $5.90 extra. Out of curiosity I asked the uncle how come the ERP is like so damn expensive now and at such a odd figure? And he said…. It’s not that expensive one leh, it should be 50cents.
DUH.
So why is it that we had to pay $5.90?
Today we took a cab back Hougang and Darling post the question to the taxi uncle again, and the uncle sae it’s probably a SCAM!!!
He say there’s been alot of complains, especially silver cabs. He told us it’s really easy to manipulate the IU machine, they can adjust it to any amount they want and cab drivers always try to scam tourists. And there was one SC driver who tried to scam a guy whom he thought is a HongKonger but he turned out to be a Singaporean and he took the receipt and called the taxi company demanding an explanation and was given a gift to appease him. We dunno how true that is, but I think there are indeed such scams going on.
Sad to say, we did not obtain receipt for that particular ride (cuz cannot claim mah, take receipt oso no use, haha). If we did I would have call them and demand an explanation too.
In any case, in future, when in doubt, get the receipt.
